“In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever effects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be, until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be … This is the inter-related structure of reality.” ~ Martin Luther King Jr.
Everything is interconnected. A very short sentence, but something for me to think about and try and get my mind round probably for the rest of my life. Everything is interconnected – everything, yes really everything! That seems so hard to comprehend. But seriously, that's how the universe works. That's why it is so important to watch how you interact with everybody and everything around you. The good news is that this also means your greatest power to change the world is to change your own mind. Yes, it really is that simple. All minds are joined, as everything is interconnected!
Let me give you an example: If someone hurts you, what do you do? Normally you get upset, angry, blame the other person, blame yourself, and so on. You walk around with and send out all this toxicity, resentment, anger and blame. What happens to all this negativity? Well, it comes right back to you. You stay in this self-made pessimistic bubble of destruction and receive even more negativity. How can you change that? If someone hurts you – wish them well, pray for them, send them good thoughts. If you send good thoughts to the person that has hurt you, one of two things will happen: Either they will stop what they are doing – or – you just stop caring about what that person does. That doesn't mean that you are not allowed to get angry anymore or report bullying, violence and assaults to the proper authorities. Once you have taken appropriate measures, breathe, and know that it gets easier if you now let it go. If you stay angry, this feeling will eat you up from the inside, it will literally make you ill. There are several ways you can let go of negative, toxic feelings like anger, find one that suits you best and use it for regular detoxification. Once you let all this toxicity leave our body and soul, you can open up our heart to let love move in. There is so much love out there. Love is really the be all and end all of your life. You are here to learn about the awareness of love's presence, which is your natural inheritance. Life happens, hurt happens and one by one barriers are built and the heart is closed. But as Rumi says: “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” If you need help and support in finding and working on your barriers, I'm here for you.
