Yuletide - The 12 Sacred Nights

On the 21st of December is the Winter Solstice, where the Sun stands still in the sky and it is the longest night of the year. The 22nd of December represents standstill and unity and the 23rd of December stands for duality and fertility. The 24th of December represents the final turning point, because only after a three day pause does the reversal of the Earth's axis take place, and the radiant child (the light) is born.

The 24th of December is known as Mother's Night, as during this night the Mother Goddess is celebrated as the creatrix of all life. The following 13 days and 12 nights are considered the time between the years, they are holy, mystical and magickal. They are known as Yuletide, the 12 Sacred Nights and are counted from midnight to midnight. Time pauses.

The old is not yet gone and the new is not yet strong enough to take over. The powers that set the Wheel of the Year in motion are getting manifested here. All of life is hurled into Chaos.  The nights still seem to rule with everlasting darkness.

It seems as though the darkness has triumphed over the light. But it is the turning point, because from this point forward the light penetrates deep into the darkness and awakens the sleeping seed of light in all and everything.

The veil to the otherworld is thin and it’s a powerful time for divination and introspection. Old patterns are being broken up so that new ones can begin. In these nights, the Nature Spirits set forth to alter and newly weave the powers that be.

Smudging during the Sacred Nights

Great days for smudging your home are:

The Winter Solstice, 24. December, 31. December and 5. January.

Herbs for smudging:

Sage: has strong etheric cleansing properties, is used for purifying and protection

Lavender: clears and purifies the air, protects the house and all that live in it, tends to be used in conjunction with or just after sage, to create harmony and tranquility

Juniper: clears and cleanses all energies that are incompatible with your own

Rosemary: protects the house and all that live in it, clears the air, brings blessings, peace, clarity and raises the energy

Thyme: cleanses the air and strengthens the energies

A smudging prayer for the home:

I cleanse this room of all darkness, impurities and all that no longer serves the highest and best good of the people that live here. I invite Love and Blessings to enter. May the room gleam in a fresh and radiant glow and bestow peace, calm and strength upon all who live here.

A smudging prayer for a person:

May your hands be cleansed, that they may create beautiful things.

May your feet be cleansed, that they may take you where you most need to be.

May your heart be cleansed, that you may hear its message clearly.

May your throat be cleansed, that you might speak rightly when words are needed.

May your eyes be cleansed, that you may see the signs of wonders of this world.

May this person and this space be washed clean by the smoke of these fragrant plants.

May that smoke carry our prayers spiralling to heaven.

Blessing the home during the Sacred Nights

After clearing and cleansing the room you can set positive intentions for each individual room:

Spray spring, holy, or moon water into every corner and the middle of the room and bless the room according to its purpose.

Examples:

Kitchen: May our kitchen be blessed and be the hub of the home in which the most wonderful food and beverages are lovingly prepared.

Lounge: May our lounge be blessed and be a popular venue for loving, kind and gentle people to meet, relax and have loving conversations.

Bedroom: May our bedroom be blessed and be the loving cradle that rocks us into a deep, relaxing and rejuvenating sleep.

Keeping a journal

During the Sacred Nights, it’s important to keep a journal, in which you can note down some or all of the following. Pay attention to everything, even silly little things:

  • your dreams

  • the feelings you have as you wake up

  • your mood

  • the atmosphere

  • the weather

  • signs or visions

  • visitors

  • phone calls

  • letters/parcels received

  • what happened during the day

  • what stood out

First Sacred Night – 24./25. December

25. December

Represents the month of January

Topic: Foundation – Roots

Today you start your journal. Write all your observations, feelings, dreams and thoughts into it, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem.

You can use this day to strengthen your roots by looking at your family, what they mean to you and blessing and honouring them. Light one candle for each of your loved ones and bless the flame from your heart. Write your feelings into your journal.

What healing would like to experience and what do you need to achieve this? Write your thoughts, feelings and any aches and pains you are experiencing into your journal.

Notice your dreams. Everything we experience in the material world starts with our thoughts, feelings and energies. Before we experience it, we dream it. You can take your questions into your dreams by asking your angels to give you the answers before you fall asleep. It may take a few days, but you will receive an answer. Write everything you receive into your journal.

Second Sacred Night – 25./26. December

26. December

Represents the month of February

Topic: Higher Self – Inner Guidance

You have access to the divine, to source. You are surrounded by Angels and other Spirits, who guide, support and accompany you every step of the way. You are loved, completely and unconditionally, by the Universe, your Angels and Guides.

Today try to connect with this inner source. Take your time, get comfortable and quiet. Concentrate on your breath, sit still and listen. Your inner guidance is loving, kind and compassionate. Sit, breathe and just be. Don’t rush, it will come to you. This way you will learn what is important for you now and which Angels and Guides are with you. Write everything you learn into your journal.

Tarot guidance for the coming year will help you to define your goals and figure out what needs to be resolved.

Connecting your inner soul voice, Angels and Guides will help you realize that you are not alone and help is always at hand.

Third Sacred Night – 26./27. December

27. December

Represents the month of March

Topic: Let miracles into your life to open your heart

Today attend to your heart energy. Who was there for me when I wasn’t well? Who stayed with me during times of trouble? Who has helped me this year? Who has loved me? Who has brought joy and happiness into my life? Who have I reached out to in love and friendship? Who or what has drained me of energy? What is in and out of balance? Which bonds of friendship do I want to strengthen, which do I want to loosen because our paths have lead us in different directions?

Open your heart again and again. It is your highest good, your biggest treasure. Clear old issues by forgiving and letting go. Open yourself up to new experiences of friendship, trust and love. Breathe the light into your heart and visualize it widening and opening like a rose with unconditional love pouring in. Love begins with love for our real self. As soon as we think bad thoughts about ourselves, our real self withdraws and this causes pain. When we recognize the light in ourselves, our heart starts to beam and glow. We can create a new version of love and togetherness and experience miracles, when we allow ourselves to love and be loved.

Today express your wishes and goals for the coming year. Your wishes and desires are an indication of your life purpose. The Divine is love and happiness and all that awakens love and happiness in us and reignites our inner flame is a sign. This is not about chasing short lived material gain, but consciously recognizing your soul purpose, the reason you came into this life. Listen to your hearts desires and let them come up into your conscious mind.

What makes your heart sing? What makes you feel completely fulfilled and brings you joy? What do you like doing the most?

Take your time to feel into your wishes and desires, write them into your journal and give them to the Universe.

Fourth Sacred Night – 27./28. December

28 December

Represents the month of April

Topic: Transformation with the Violet Flame

The Violet Flame is a spiritual energy of pure love and joy, forgiveness and mercy, that can help you in all areas of your life. Anything it touches it will transform or transmute with love.

Today clear everything that hasn’t gone so well over the last few days and with that reverse your fortune for the coming year.

Remember everything that hasn’t gone so well over the last three days, for example any bad dreams, arguments, bad weather or bad news.

  • Then visualize the Violet Flame as it starts to blaze and glow around all those incidents.

  • See how the occurrences are starting to dissolve and how they are transformed into joyful, glowing images.

  • Feel the joy and gratitude about the transformation.

  • Hold the vision of these new images and dip them into crystal white light.

  • Visualize how the blessings are flowing over and through these images, blessing your visions.

  • Now let it go, safe in the knowledge that you are unconditionally loved by the universe.

Or you can write all negative occurrences on one piece of paper.

Then take a second piece of paper and put a positive spin on all those incidents (for example: it rained today to cleanse the earth and all of our souls; there was a storm today to blow away our cobwebs and help us move forward; I had a reminder to pay my bill so that I won’t forget; etc.).

Then burn the first piece of paper containing the negative feelings to transform it.

Fifth Sacred Night – 28./29. December

29 December

Represents the month of May

Topic: Friendship

Today take a look at your friendships, all of them, including the ones with your family and yourself. Are you your own best friend? Remember: how can you expect others to like you and be your friend, if you don't.

Being your own best friend starts with forgiveness. Forgiving yourself all that you deem to be mistakes or mishaps and be kind, tender and compassionate with yourself.

Take some time today to look at and honour the friendships you have built in your life.

Maybe there are some deep friendships that have fallen apart. Take a look at what is needed to find resolution, healing, peace and love in your soul. Remember: all friendships start with respect. The respect you have in your heart for the other person.

Clear the inner field, so that new friendships and new experiences of love will be possible for you in the New Year.

To clear your inner field:

  • Visualise the infinity symbol

  • Two sunbeams from source touch one circle each

  • You are standing in one of the circles, your friend in the other one

  • Become aware of all of the etheric cords that have built up over time

  • The cord of love is always there, it cannot be cut

  • Ask Archangel Michael to cut all cords that are no longer for your highest and best good with his sword of light

  • Thank your friend for the love and those cords that are still present

  • When everything is cut and cleared, visualise the infinity symbol splitting in the middle

  • There are now two circles, each one with a connection to source

  • The circles are starting to vibrate and find a good and healthy distance to each other, which includes honour and respect.

  • It feels light and comfortable.

  • Everything will now come to a conclusion that is best for your highest good.

Review this year and recognize your achievements, victories, defeats, contributions, highs and lows and that what you have done well. Say “Yes” to yourself. Try to see yourself in a positive light for at least 5 minutes.

Loving yourself sparks love towards others. Loving yourself means that your whole being emanates love, that it streams out of you. This is how other people will then come to see you - as a very loving human being.

Let your friends know how much you love and appreciate them.

Sixth Sacred Night – 29./30. December

30. December

Represents the month of June

Topic: Clearing

Let go and look confidently ahead. Always expect the Best!

Take a look at what you want to leave behind in the old year.

Take your time and reflect and review the old year.

Prepare for entering the new year.

Meditation journey to look at what to leave behind:

  • Sit comfortably and concentrate on your breath.

  • Call on your Angels for protection, help and guidance.

  • Go to a safe place within.

  • Meet the spirit of the old year and let him show you everything that didn’t go so well and what you really want to leave behind.

  • Let everything that needs healing and wants to be released come to you.

  • What needs forgiving?

  • What needs to be blessed?

  • What needs to be brought to conclusion?

  • What has been finished?

  • What do you really not want to take with you?

  • What have you learned from these incidents?

  • What was its purpose?

  • Concentrate on your breath, stretch your arms and hands and come back into the here and now.

Feel the gratitude for life’s challenges. Call on your Angels for support in really letting certain issues go and make room for the new. Write everything down on a piece of paper and burn it with some dried Frankincense or Sage. Just like it dissolves in the flames, it can dissolve in your soul.

Tidy your home, smudge, let go of everything that is broken and doesn’t serve its purpose any more.

Seventh Sacred Night – 30./31. December

31. December

Represents the month of July

Topic: Preparing for what is to come

Since the introduction of the Gregorian calendar in 1582, the 31. December is the last day of the year.

Every transition creates new opportunities for change, to form and reshape things.

Try and prepare for tonight by bathing or showering to wash off the old year, leave it behind and dream up your vision of the New Year.

You can make a vision board what you would like the New Year to look like.

There are many customs and traditions about what to do on New Year’s Eve, here are just a few examples:

  •  Spend the night with a circle of friends and loved ones, as a circle protects

  •  Make new year’s resolutions and take a look at what was fulfilled and what wasn’t

  •  Smudge your home and work space, to clear it of any energies that do not agree with your own

  •  Divination, a really good night to forecast the year ahead

  •  “First footing”, or the first foot in the house after midnight, is to ensure good luck for the house. The first foot should be a dark male, and he should bring with him symbolic pieces of coal, shortbread, salt, black bun and a small dram of whisky.

Eighth Sacred Night – 31. December/1. January

1. January

Represents the month of August

Topic: Birth of the New Year

Today we set intentions for the year to come. One really good way of doing this is by sending heart felt wishes and blessings to your friends and family.

Blessing your home and work-space will set positive intentions for each individual room.

You can also bless the Year by placing flowers or lights near trees or giving them to the water. This way the blessings are absorbed deep into the heart of Mother Earth.

It’s also a very good time to hold prayers for Peace. Peace within yourself, Peace within all others and Peace within our beloved Mother Earth, our great Goddess.

It’s all about honouring our great Father, who blesses us with the potential of this New Year and our great Mother, who gives birth to it and nurtures it.

Ninth Sacred Night – 1./2. January

2. January

Represents the month of September

Topic: Golden Blessings of Light

The 2nd of January means that many people will be returning to work and everyday life.

Also on this day, the Earth Mother has set out to bless the Sun Child with the aspects of life.

We are all light bearers, embodying this perfect and complete light. It shines in every atom and every cell. It is time to focus on your own center and to align yourself. In your middle is tranquility, silence and peace and from this comes your strength. Connect with the golden core inside of you.

Connecting to your own inner light:

  • Light a candle for the New Year

  • Become still and concentrate on your breath

  • Connect to your inner golden light

  • Ask for Blessings for the New Year for your life

  • Invite the gold into your life

  • Bless the New Year by visualizing golden light flowing into your Crown Chakra and from there into your heart and then into your hands

  • Visualize each of the next 12 months and send blessings wrapped in golden light into each of them

  • Visualize exactly how you are sending this blessing into each new month

  • Observe your feelings and the flow of energy for each month

  • Make a note of your feelings for each month in your journal

Tenth Sacred Night – 2./3. January

3. January

Represents the month of October

Topic: Visions and Intuition – Connecting to the Divine

When we walk our sacred path, we are able to draw from an unlimited source of opportunities. We always have free will choice and can choose how to act, how to speak and in which direction to go.

Today, try to become aware of the following:

  • How do I use my thoughts, my perception, my expression in word and deed?

  • What do I use my energy for?

  • How do I deal with my energy and how do I organise it?

  • What do I spend the most time doing?

  • Which situation should change for the better

The past is behind us, now is the present moment and the future isn’t here yet. Every day presents a new opportunity for re-alignment to make new and life-enhancing experiences.

You can now start to visualize new and better circumstances for yourself. Create an idea about what you would like to change and improve in your life in this coming year and what you can contribute to make this happen. Every change starts with you.

Something to meditate upon: “Nothing endures but change.” ~ Heraclitus of Ephesus

Eleventh Sacred Night – 3./4. January

4. January

Represents the month of November

Topic: Letting go, saying goodbye, death

When we think about or witness death, we learn that our life on earth is limited. This then leads to the following questions:

  • Why am I here?

  • What do I want to bring to earth?

  • What is the meaning of my life?

  • What is my life purpose?

When we find our inner middle, we are able to restructure our life and reorganize our energy. Out of our inner connection we are able to make a lot happen. Many people have anchored their eternal energies in these dimensions. We are still studying their scriptures, insights and biographies.

Take some time and take a closer look at death, as it happens in every life.

  • What is definitely over?

  • Where do I feel trapped and want to break free?

  • What really wants to be released?

  • What is important for my life?

  • How do I use my life energy?

  • What would I want my obituary to say?

Looking at mortality or rather our limited time here on earth can really help to re-organise and restructure your life and to focus on that what you want to accomplish and experience in this life.

Twelfth Sacred Night – 4./5. January

5. January

Represents the month of December

Topic: Clearing

The 5th of January is a special day, as just like on the night of transformation with the Violet Flame, today you get another chance to clear everything that hasn’t gone so well over the last eleven days and nights, and with that reverse your fortune for the coming year.

Take your time and review the last 12 days. Let everything come to you, don’t force it. Read your journal and really go within. How does it make you feel? Make a note of all of the feelings that come up while you are re-reading everything you have felt over the last eleven nights.

Take your time and re-visit every moment, every feeling, every word you have written down.

What wasn’t so great?

Which signs didn’t feel good?

What has stressed you?

When you are ready, start visualizing or thinking about everything that makes you feel lonely, inadequate, sad, angry, hurt, resentful or full of worry.

  • Visualize the Violet Flame as it starts to blaze and glow around all those incidents.

  • See how the occurrences are starting to dissolve and how they are transformed into joyful, glowing images.

  • Feel the joy and gratitude about the transformation.

  • Hold this vision of the new images and dip them into crystal white light.

  • Visualise how the blessings are flowing over and through these images, blessing your visions.

After you have cleared everything, pray for the year ahead. Send loving, compassionate and affirming wishes surrounded with gold shining sparkles into this coming year. Pray for peace and love to fill yourself, your surroundings and Mother Earth.

5./6. January

6. January

Topic: Blessing, Completion of the Sacred Nights

The 6th of January marks the end of the Sacred Nights and closes the subtle gates of the Otherworld. Before we lose ourselves completely in the activities of everyday life, we now have another opportunity to re-visit the past twelve nights.

Light a candle and review the last twelve nights in peace.

Read over your notes and take a look at which memories you have processed, which ones have remained and which ones still want to be looked at.

What needs more time and what new realisations are you taking with you into the upcoming year?

Which topic has occupied your mind the most in the last 12 days?

What was a recurring topic?

How would you summarise the last 12 days and nights in one sentence?

The Sun Child directs his rays into this new year. Perhaps the Sacred Nights have helped you gain some idea about what awaits you, what you may want to focus on, what you can send some healing to, what you want to continue and what you should just accept.

May this new year hold many lovely and unexpected blessings for you.

May you only expect and receive the best.

With much Love
